Keeping up with the world of computers can be a difficult endeavor. There is always some new technology or application in development, and the big players in the industry have recently made some important announcements that hint at even bigger things to come.

Lately, the companies that are the movers and shakers when it comes to processors, operating systems, and browsers, have made a lot of news with some of the products they offer. Each of these announcements has the potential to change the way we look at and use computers in our daily lives.

A couple announcements came out of Intel recently. The first was about the new Corei7 and i5 processors. These new processors were designed to really improve the performance on higher end computer – the ones used in gaming, digital media, and other high productivity areas. Intel showed some stats that indicated how their new products will increase performance and still decrease the power consumption.

They also announced the new processors for entry level server computers. These processors, the 3400 and 3420 chipsets, will be a huge benefit for businesses that depend on efficient networking and reliable uptime to succeed. These new chips have been shown to increase a company’s transaction and response time.

The operating system industry is seeing a lot of changes as well, and there is even more on the horizon. Snow Leopard for the Mac just came out, and it was designed to make the computers run faster and smoother. Many people have been happy with the upgrade, but there are reports of some troubling bugs with other computers. Google also announced that its own operating system, Google Chrome OS, is also in development, and Windows 7 should be released later this year.

Windows 7 will probably be the most closely watched development in the OS realm. After Vista received a lot of criticism for having a lot of bugs and security issues, a lot is riding on the release of the next system. There has been a lot of talk about Windows 7 and how it will affect our computing and Microsoft’s future.

The way we interact with the Internet is also changing really fast. Recently there have been significant changes to Firefox and IE, and everyone has their preferences, but now Google has made news again. The company has just made a deal with Sony to include the Google Chrome browser as the default browser on Sony Vaio computers. This is a huge deal because it gives the new browser a new way to gain market share.

Computers will continue to evolve and the industry will be forced to adapt to these changes. There are a number of ways to stay in touch with the news in the computer industry, and if you work with computers on a regular basis, you can’t afford not to.
